Israel accused of building record number of homes


www.euronews.net Israel's Peace Now movement has accused the government of Benjamin Netanyahu of overseeing a record year in settlement building on West Bank land claimed by the Palestinians. Peace Now says new building starts jumped by 20 percent in 2011. Building of Jewish homes on occupied land is one of the main reasons cited by the Palestinians for refusing to resume peace talks.

Palestinian population boom worries Israel


Some Israeli officials are worried that a growing Palestinian population could undermine the country's identity as a Jewish state. According to the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics, demographic figures project that Palestinians in Israel and the occupied territories of the West Bank and Gaza, will outnumber Israelis within a decade. Al Jazeera's Rory Challands reports from the West Bank.

Israel Navy to secure offshore drilling rafts


The Israel Navy will be in charge of protecting Israeli offshore drilling rigs. The IDF General Staff decided several months ago that the flotilla in charge of the navy's missile boats will be responsible for naval patrols between the natural gas fields Tamar, Leviathan and Yam Tethys, including any drilling rigs that might be erected in the future. Navy officers confirmed that the mission will amount to thousands of hours of missile boats' operational hours each year. They also said the navy won't be the only force protecting the rigs, which are drilling for oil and natural gas, since the Israel Air Force will have aircraft on alert in case of an attack.

'Israel govt most fascist in history'


Israeli warplanes have launched two airstrikes on what the army called "terror sites" in central and northern Gaza, killing at least one person and injuring ten others. The Israeli military earlier confirmed it's preparing for a new large-scale offensive against the Palestinian territory, which hasn't yet recovered from the assault three years ago.
